The Destiny 2 community bands together on Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with players customizing their characters in golden colors

Eyes up, Guardian! It is a bleak solar system out there, but as long as the light within you burns bright, hope still stands.

Destiny 2 is an open-world video game where players are able to explore different planets in our solar system, fight hordes of enemies and collect sweet gear. Players are able to choose different classes: Warlock, Titan or Hunter each with their own unique abilities. These characters are known as Guardians. With the power of the Destiny 2 community, one Guardian shines bright.

On Aug 31st, 2022, Twitter user AnneMunition shared a photo where a father explained that his oldest daughter had passed away after losing a battle to Ewing's Sarcoma, an aggressive Pediatric Cancer. He explained that September was Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and gold was the color associated with it. He requested if the Destiny 2 community would customize their characters with golden colors and the response was beautiful.

Destiny users throughout the week showed their support by providing in-game screenshots of their Guardians. Massive gaming celebrities such as Dr. Lupo, Darkness429, Gothalion, and Gladd showed their support. Gaming platform and company, Xbox also showed their support by stating,

“We’ll see him in the Tower <3” The Tower is the social space within Destiny where 16 players including yourself can go to different vendors for gear upgrades or just to hang out.

The community was very supportive and was able to show off their Guardians. The support extended even further to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Twitter user, Jacob Witzel, stated under the thread,

“My clan will be showing their support! Also, they don’t all game, but I shared this with my company at the workplace as we work hand-in-hand with @StJude and they all send their love."

To which St. Jude's Children's Hospital replied with gratitude, “Thank you so much!”

Destiny 2's gesture of going gold has gone a long way. It shows the strength and sympathy of the Destiny 2 community and how something as simple as a gesture in a video game can shine awareness on the darkest days. The Traveler keeps providing light, see you in the solar system!
