The Top 10 Biggest Moves of the NFL Offseason

By Hagen Sparrow

The 2024 NFL offseason has not disappointed and we have seen many big names move around. New contracts, team changes and trades make up the chaos, but what have been the biggest moves so far?

10. EDGE, Brian Burns, is traded from the Carolina Panthers to the New York Giants

Burns is coming off an amazing season and is looking to establish himself as one of the league’s best up-and-coming pass rushers. At the age of 25, Burns has already shown the potential to be a nightmare for any offense and has plenty left in the tank to continue his dominance.

9. Jaylon Johnson, Cornerback, re-signs with the Chicago Bears

One of the league’s premier cornerbacks stays in Chicago as they look to rebuild this off-season. Johnson, who was selected to second-team All-Pro this past season, secured a four-year deal worth 76 million dollars. Arguably the best cornerback last season, Johnson elected to stay with the Bears, as they have a bright future ahead of them.

8. EDGE, Danielle Hunter, signs with the Houston Texans

The former Minnesota Viking is coming off a career-high in sacks last season (16.5). As one of the league's premier pass rushers, Hunter is going to be paired up with Texans Defensive Rookie of the Year, Will Anderson Jr. These two players will make a scary duo in Houston.

7. The Pittsburgh Steelers sign Quarterback Russell Wilson

The Steelers fill a much-needed role by bringing in the veteran QB and nine-time Pro-Bowler. Wilson, a former Super Bowl champ, struggled to find his groove during his time in Denver but will have a fresh start in Pittsburgh. With the recent trade for former Chicago Bears QB, Justin Fields, Wilson will act as a mentor in helping him take over the reins in the future.

6. Defensive Tackle, Christian Wilkins, signs a major contract with the Las Vegas Raiders

One of the league’s top run-stoppers in 2023, the former Miami Dolphin, is taking his talents to Las Vegas. This move pairs Wilkins with EDGE, Maxx Crosby, to make one scary front.

5. Justin Madubuike, Defensive Tackle, locks up a long-term deal with the Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens secure a big piece to their number one pass-rushing defense by re-signing Madubuike. He led the team in sacks last season (13) and is a monster on the interior. His explosiveness and ability to pressure the quarterback puts him toward the top of his position.

4. Kansas City Chiefs trade Cornerback, L’Jarius Sneed, to the Tennessee Titans

In a surprising move this offseason, the back-to-back Super Bowl Champs traded their superstar cornerback for a 2025 3rd-round pick and a 2024 7th-round pick swap. This comes just after the organization used its franchise tag Sneed. He will find himself a new home in Tennessee, while the Chiefs avoid his major future contract.

3. Two-time Super Bowl Champion, Chris Jones, Defensive Tackle, re-signs with the Kansas City Chiefs

Jones earned himself a massive payday as he signed a new contract with the Chiefs. Arguably one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL, he looks to help Kansas City become the first team in NFL history to win three Super Bowls in a row.

2. Quarterback, Kirk Cousins, leaves the Minnesota Vikings and signs with the Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons have found themselves their QB for the next four years. Cousins, who is coming off a torn Achilles, is looking to bounce back from his injury with a new home in Atlanta. He signed a massive 4-year 180 million dollar deal with the team and will be the driving force of their offense.

1. Running Back, Saquon Barkley, leaves the New York Giants and joins rival Philadelphia Eagles

In the most surprising move this offseason, Barkley is taking his elite running ability to Philadelphia. He will be rushing behind one of the league's top offensive lines, so a career year out of Barkley could very well be in the fold this upcoming season. Already one of the best rushers in the game, Barkley is going to excel within the Eagles offense.

With all of these big moves, we don't know what to expect of this upcoming 2024-2025 NFL season. This league-wide mix-up has every football fan waiting for what's next.
