Chaffey College students share how the recent construction at the Rancho Cucamonga campus could change the game for how they study and connect at school.
Beginning in 2018, Measure P, a $700 million government funded bond, was granted to Chaffey College. Per this bond, two major renovations are being added to the Rancho Campus.
The Library Learning Commons is estimated to be completed in November of 2025, and it is intended to be a flagship model for 21st century learning.
The MACC Renovation will expand the kitchen and dining facilities, and it is estimated to be finished some time in March of 2026.
The money funding these projects is being monitored, and reported on annually by the Independent Citizens Oversight Committee.
With the recent developments at Chaffey College’s Rancho Cucamonga campus, students say the transformation might breathe new life into their experience.
In past years, many have claimed the campus to be outdated and lacking resources, causing students to feel disinclined to attend in person classes, instead opting for the more convenient pathway of its online counterpart. However, with construction underway on several new facilities, including a new library and student center, anticipation is quickly building.
Damien, 18, undeclared major at Chaffey, said he believes the growth of the campus, and the new library in particular, will inspire himself and others to utilize the resources maintained on the premises.
“The old library was too outdated,” he explained. “When the new one is built I will be studying there way more.”
Ailani Romero, 19, nursing major, said, “I’m already looking at pictures and it looks really good. I would definitely come in person more just to study there.”
For students like Damien and Romero, the promise of well-equipped spaces and resources is imperative to foster an environment that facilitates growth, connection, and academic success.
Construction of Chaffey College’s new Library Learning Commons is progressing steadily, but the facility hasn’t opened, while the original estimated completion period of early to mid-2025 has come and gone.
According to most recent updates from May 2025, the project is in active build mode: fireproofing is complete, structural framing and drywall are underway, and mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire-protection systems are being installed.
The recent construction is likely to expand resources, make the campus more accessible and support the growing student population. The renovations mark a significant step in Chaffey’s efforts to modernize its campus and improve student experiences.
