The Chaffey College Police Department is investigating potential hate-crimes at the Rancho Cucamonga campus.
Chaffey PD released a statement detailing the acts of vandalism as potential hate-crimes in accordance with California Penal Code 422.6, which covers intimidation and destruction/vandalism of property. The crimes committed include the defacing of multiple campus facilities with anti-Semitic imagery and racial slurs.
According to campus staff and the Chaffey College Daily Crime Log, the vandalisms have occurred on multiple occasions in the men’s restrooms of the following buildings: Center for the Arts (CAA), Wargin Hall (WH), Language Arts (LA), Health Science (HS) and Social Science (SS). It is believed that the vandalism is occurring between 1pm-4pm by the same individual. Each finding is reported to have similar penmanship, with a Sharpie marker being the reoccurring tool of choice.
Chief Griffin of Chaffey PD says “[they] have increased patrols in key areas of the campus, are working closely with campus administration, and are encouraging the campus community to promptly report any suspicious or concerning behavior.”
Alisha Rosas, the associate superintendent of Student Services and Strategic Communications issued a release where she stated "incidents like these are not indicative of Chaffey College's values or mission. We will provide the campus with updates as they become available."
If you have any information regarding the crimes, students and faculty are encouraged to submit an anonymous tip via call or text to (844)-909-0293.
