On Oct. 30, nine writers from The Breeze traveled across the country to Washington, DC. to attend the College Media Association (CMA) and the Associated Collegiate Press (ACP) convention.

The convention was bigger than previous years, and students from all across the country came together to compete in Best of Show awards and learn more about journalism in different aspects. From sports broadcasting, to maintaining a well working workplace, to re-branding workshops, there were many things to learn.

As it was their first time traveling to Washington D.C., the students enjoyed seeing the famous monuments. The first few days of the trip, the students traveled to the National History Museum. The topics of evolution, wild life and much more were introduced to the students. The students also toured around Washington visiting the Lincoln Memorial, The White House, The Vietnam Memorial and many more.

After the Washington Nationals won their first World Series title, students were woken up by excited fans. A few students attended the parade in honor of the series win and got a taste of how sports are celebrated in other states.

Students also visited Al Jazeera Media Network (AJ+), which is a news and current event media network. With the help of Danna Fakhoury, the students were guided through AJ+. Like The Breeze, the editors at AJ+ are dedicated to producing content in its greatest form.

The Breeze attended The Best of Show awards ceremony and received awards for fourth place in Best Website as a two-year school, fourth place for our advertising rate card and tenth place for Best Multimedia Package.

The multimedia package featured "Artist Spotlight," a video produced by The Breeze showcasing artist Benee Winkel as she explained how's art shaped her into the person she is today. Directed by Katie Priest and Ciara De Alba, "Artist Spotlight" exhibits art in various forms. The Breeze's winning multimedia package can be found on thebreezepaper.com.

In early 2020, editors from The Breeze are traveling to San Francisco to attend another convention in hopes of receiving more awards. The Breeze's mission is to continue to learn journalism in the real world and learn ways to improve the content they produce.
