Chaffey College Hosts: 'Policies and Procedures Update with Office of Norma Torres' Webinar

By Loureyna Pablo

On Friday Oct. 17, the team of Congresswoman Norma Torres (Californias 35th District Representative) presented a Zoom webinar on the legal updates and services their office provides. As a part of Undocumented Students Success Week, Alejandro Trujillo, the casework manager for Torres's office, briefed the audience with information critical for legal protection amid ICE raids and abductions.

While the congresswoman herself was not present at the webinar, Trujillo, stressed the importance of filling out Form G-28. It was heavily emphasized that this document can speed up the legal representation process if detained, he underscored that “being prepared for the worst day of your life” can make it easier to be found.

Trujillo shared his screen and showed the audience an information packet that can be found on Torres’s website, including a 24-hour emergency hotline. By calling the phone number 909-409-5421, individuals can gain access to critical resources and guidance “particularly during times of heightened vulnerability,” said Torres.

In the meeting, Trujillo stated that their team is currently working with four detainees in the Adelanto ICE Processing Center. The team evaluates conditions through organizing weekly check-ins with detainees while also answering any on-going questions.

Because many are vulnerable — given that Trujillo pointed out that their team found “a mix of legal statuses” in Adelanto — Torres and her team work to make it known that they are a resource center available for citizens within the 35th Congressional District (which includes parts of San Bernardino and Los Angeles County).

Since there is mistrust between citizens and politicians, or as Trujillo puts it, their team tries to be “transparent and (reach out) in the language that is comfortable for the people.”

The Torres team has a public presence at swap meets and the farmers’ markets in Pomona. Trujillo says they connect with the public directly so that people know that local politicians are “on their side”.

Torres explicitly condemned immigration raids in June of 2025, telling ICE to “get the f--- out of LA so that order can be restored”. Continuing to stand by her people, Torres’s office extends her services directly through events like college webinars to educate and encourage communities to be proactive.
