In a recent Saturday Night Live featuring Adele, there was a skit about African sex tourism. Adele, McKinnon, and Heidi Gardner played divorced women advertising vacations to Africa with dark toned men directing them to a direction throughout the beach.
Lauren Steussy, writer of the news article, stated “ Immediately, critics lashed out at Adele and “SNL” for abusing stereotypes, fetishizing black men and mocking an area currently dealing with unrest over police brutality and the #EndSARS movement.”

Kim Kardashian, one of the most known socialites, has been called for attempting black face in one of her former cover page images.
“It’s the lighting that makes her look darker in this specific image,” a source said to Page Six. “There are multiple covers and images from this shoot where the lighting looks more natural.”
People have stated past photos for 7 Hollywood magazine have had perfect lightning when presenting different images, so it couldn’t have been bad lightning. Kardashian is yet to respond to accusations.

The fashion industry is one place where being viewed as cultural appropriation is very important. Fashion has been developed through many backgrounds and influences that take place when creating new ideas. Fashion isn’t always meant to degrade or offend cultures but may trigger some who have different believes.

Cultural appropriation is the idea of someone adopting something from a culture that is not their own, which can cause a big controversy. The Washington Redskin, NFL team, mascot is an American Indian wearing a headdress. American Indians have a long history of being mistreated and pushed off their land by the white settlers in the United States. This has made many believe the mascot should be retired and switched to a more appropriate figure. The topic has caused many to feel out of place and distance between others who may not think about the history behind the name.
