Disneyland reopens April 30th

After more than a year since closing because of the coronavirus pandemic, Disneyland will be reopening Friday, April 30 with limited capacity and restrictions on various rides. There will be attractions remaining closed for the meantime due to refurbishment and retheming. Both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure will sell tickets through their website and app. This comes as the annual pass program was discontinued earlier this year, causing an uproar from beloved fans. As of right now, only California residents will be allowed into the parks.

San Bernardino County coronavirus update

On Wednesday, April 28, San Bernardino County reported zero deaths from coronavirus for the fifth consecutive day. This is the longest span with no fatalities in a little over three months. Since the pandemic began in March 2020, the county has reported 4,326 deaths, as of April 24, 2021. In regards to vaccinations, a total of 43% of the county’s population have received a vaccine. Of those 43%, 28% are fully vaccinated whereas 14.5% are partially vaccinated.

Amazon opens airport hub in San Bernardino

Amazon has opened a 660,000 square-foot sorting facility in San Bernardino, which will serve as the Southern California headquarters for the company’s air freight network. Currently, there is one flight a day, facilitating shipments for customers across the country. With this new site, the capacity to support will grow to 14 daily flights, across more than 35 sites in Amazon Air’s domestic network. As activity at the site slowly grows, Amazon expects six daily flights by July and nine by the end of the year.

AMC Theaters opens 12-screen dine-in theater in Montclair

After being in the works for four years, AMC Theaters has opened a brand-new theater complex in the Montclair Place mall. Included in the complex is a Dolby Cinema and an IMAX theater. Also featured in the theater is the dine-in option where guests can place food orders and have them delivered to their seats. The 55,000 square-foot theater replaced the old Macy’s department store that once stood in the east side of the shopping mall. In February 2020, Sears shuttered their location at Montclair Place, soon followed by the closure of the county's only Nordstrom store in May 2020.

Ontario International Airport transfer of ownership is complete

Ontario International Airport made its last payment to the city of Los Angeles, completing the purchase of the airport, a battle which lasted many years. Despite the final payment not being due until October 2026, the Ontario International Airport Authority (OIAA) paid off its debt on April 26, going forward with bond issuance and taking advantage of low interest rates and demand of airport revenue bonds. Plans for the airport call for a new Federal Inspection Station for U.S. Customs and Border Patrol to check international passengers. It would replace a temporary building that can only accommodate one plane at a time. Since the coronavirus pandemic began, there has been a 65% drop in passengers whereas cargo has increased by 14.1%.
