On Aug. 27, Chaffey College hosted their bi-annual Club Rush to kick off the fall semester. The event took place from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Rancho Cucamonga campus. It ended up being Chaffey's biggest turnout with about forty-four chartered clubs and more than a thousand students participating.
Joining a club is a way for students to find community with peers that have similar academic or personal interests.
Chaffey allows students to charter clubs if there are members, officers and advisors. The fruits of their labor are apparent at Club Rush as the clubs display what their community is about.
From student government to fashion club, there is definitely a club for anyone to join. Tables at the event had a combination of pamphlets, demos and goodies for the students to be able to take with them.
Seina Esquiavel, a 22-year-old fashion design major said,
“It was my first time going to Club Rush, there were so many people.”
One of the clubs that participated is the Lavender Coalition which encourages a safe space for LGBTQIA+ students and allies.
Another club in attendance, the Mental Health Club, advocates for on-campus mental health support for all students.
Chaffey College Speech and Debate Club showcased their expertise by publicly speaking from their booth while Game Development Club displayed demos of their games.
The clubs at Chaffey College encourage students to socialize with their peers outside of a classroom environment.
Noel Matine, an 18-year-old electrical engineer student stated,
“I was interested in joining the engineering club.”
While the event had a great turnout, there are still aspects that can be improved upon for the next Club Rush.
Amaya Brawswell, a 19-year-old nursing major said,
“It was good. But it was packed and hot."
Noel Matine added,
“[Club Rush] was crowded… If it were spread out more, it would be more nice.”
Many students commented on these factors with the hope that it can be organized better next semester.
The next Club Rush will be hosted at the start of the spring 2026 semester.
