The Veterans Resource Center Hosts 251st Birthday Celebration for the U.S. Army

On a warm early summer day, June 11, 2026, the Veterans Resource Center at Chaffey College hosted an early birthday celebration for the United States Army, which was established on June 14, 1775.

During the event, a pamphlet with intriguing facts about the Army was shared:

- The army is one of the oldest branches of the United States military, only being younger than the National Guard.
- George Washington was the first Commander-in-Chief of the Army.
- The Army was also one of the last branches of the military to receive an official song (1956).
- 24 of our U.S. Presidents have served in the Army.

The soldiers of today serve in the U.S. and around the world, supporting defense, relief and humanitarian missions. At Chaffey College, these soldiers are also students achieving personal goals through education.

The Veterans Resource Center hosts events and a safe space for veterans attending Chaffey College. They provide many services to help veterans further their education and life goals.

The Army Birthday celebration honored 251 years of service, dedication and sacrifice. Cupcakes were served in a communal space alongside the aforementioned informational pamphlets detailing the origins of the Army and how they have continued their march well into the 21st century.

The veterans in attendance were very grateful to have a space to be among other veterans, as well as a system that seems to truly support them. From help registering for classes, to finding financial aid to help these veterans with anything they might need to be successful.

The administrative assistant, Jessica Galvan, hopes to host many more events celebrating our veterans. While a date has not yet been confirmed, there will be an event hosted by the Veterans Resource Center for the 4th of July, Independence Day celebration.

This Independence Day will be America’s 250th anniversary, so join the fun and festivities with those who served this country as we celebrate two and a half centuries of freedom.
