Humans of Chaffey: Grant Mayeaux

By Aaron Rogers

As the 2026 baseball season has come to an end, it is worth noting that the Chaffey Panthers found themselves in unfamiliar territory before the season had even started. Just two weeks before the first pitch, the program welcomed its new head coach, Grant Mayeaux

With a transitioning roster, a new system taking shape and a team learning to trust a leader who barely had time to unpack his bags before stepping into the dugout, Coach Mayeaux was at a disadvantage against other teams in the conference.

"I had about two weeks to get this team prepared for the season, trying to establish relationships and trust with my coaching staff and the team. As for other teams, they had seven months on us in that aspect," Mayeaux explained.

While it sounds like a challenge, Mayeaux's life-long love for the game makes for great guidance.

Growing up in Huntington Beach, he played both soccer and baseball at Marina High School at the varsity level. He continued his baseball journey, playing at Cypress Community College before transferring to San Diego State for two years.

Aside from his own time on the field, Mayeaux brings plenty of leadership experience to Chaffey. Mayeaux spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Cypress College from 2023 to 2024. Cypress advanced to the 3C2A Super Regionals in 2023 and to the Regional round in 2024.

He continued on his coaching journey as the assistant coach at El Camino College during their 2025 season. At El Camino, he helped guide the Warriors to a 32-14 overall record and a Super Regional Final appearance. Under his development, the team offense broke the home run record with 40 runs in the season.

He credits head coach of El Camino, Grant Palmar, for getting his foot in the door at Chaffey.

Outside of his collegiate coaching experience he also serves as the Director of Baseball Operations for the Orange County Riptide of the California Collegiate League. Where he helps provides professional-style development to the players.

Off the field, Grant enjoys spending time with his wife and their seven month old boxer as they get to know Rancho Cucamonga.

While the Chaffey Panthers struggled this 2026 season, the future is bright. He has big visions for his team, encouraging the players to continue "coming out to the ball park and finding a way to get better at what you are trying to do," while focusing on getting their baseball careers beyond Chaffey's walls.
