The government, backed by a hardline conservative base, is vehemently pursuing a regime change, signing off on billions for a war while economic hardship deepens at home. The justification is flimsy, mainly centered around weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), and the violation of international law is undeniable. The parameters of victory are unclear, but that has not stopped the government from declaring it.
